Mt. Aspiring National Park from Mt. Alfred. On the right, the peak of Mt. Earnslaw is just out of view; that is the spot where Gandalf finished off the Balrog on the mountain top in The Two Towers. The tree line was also used as one of the Fangorn Forest locations. To the left of Mt. Alfred is the filming location for Isengard in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Where the fellowship entered Lothlorien lies to the left of Mt. Earnslaw and the Southern Alps (background) were included in the location for the lighting of the beacons in The Two Towers.
